Remote ID Angry Pilots!!
In this video, filmed in Jan 2023, I'd like to present an update on remote ID and angry pilots. When I mention angry pilots I am a bit tongue in cheek. But I will say that many RC drone and fixed wing pilots get fired up quickly over the mention of remote ID and the FAA's need for this program. Many feel that broadcasting RC pilot locations is an invasion of privacy, etc.
I will discuss your right to fly, the history of FAA and remote ID and go over the FAA website and the numerous (around 100 per month) sightings of UAVs in airspace to which they are not cleared. It is these increasing number of airspace incursions that is leading to the Congressional need for a remote ID capability. If no UAVs flew into controlled airspace without permission, no need for remote ID.
I also discuss what will happen in 2023 with remote ID and some critical implementation dates. I cover smaller RC models (under 250 grams) that are exempt from remote ID requirements and some concluding remarks. This will include manufacturer compliance dates (Dec 2022) and when all RC pilots require remote ID, which will be Sept 16, 2023.
