Jacob won joint first prize with composition 'Night', in the Music to Picture category for Guildhall Young Artists competition, 'RELEASE'.
Jacob, Age 17 says: "Night is written to accompany an imaginary film in which a haunted forest is discovered by mankind. In this scene, a stranger enters the deserted forest. As the piece rises in tension the film hints that all is not as it seems. The leaves rustle and the sound of distant animals grows louder until the stranger is too frightened and finds the quickest passage out of the forest. From bar 42 to the end, the stranger realises he hasn't escaped when the trees extend from the forest and pull him back in, completely destroying him. It is dramatic indeed!”
In March 2021, all 1,600 students who access a Saturday music school across the Guildhall Young Artists network, including Junior Guildhall and the Centre for Young Musicians, were invited to submit a composition to four categories: Songwriting, Digital Media, Music to Picture and Concert Music. As well as cash prizes for the top 3 compositions in each category, participants could also win other prizes including an online masterclass with an industry leading artist.
