Each year on May 9th, residents of Jersey, a small British island just 14 miles off the coast of France that was the only British soil captured during World War II, hold a Thanksgiving and reenactment ceremony of the day British soldiers liberated the island. Festivities begin with a parade down the main street. Meanwhile, soldiers in vintage uniforms wait to storm Liberation Square. Over the wall and through the crowd they surge, to the 2nd floor of the Pomme d'Or Hotel, where they hoist the Union Jack to the cheers of the grateful crowd.
