From mid-August through Labor Day weekend, the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad, parent railroad to the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway ran their only operating steam locomotive (as of the time of this recording) from Jim Thorpe to Old Penn Haven and return. The steam locomotive powering these trips was Reading & Northern 425. 425 is a 4-6-2 Pacific built by the Baldwin Locomotives Works in 1928. The 425 ran for the Gulf Mobile & Northern as their 425 and later as Gulf Mobile & Ohio as their 580. 425 went to various railroads after its time on the GM&O and is now a staple locomotive in the Reading & Northern Passenger Department.
425 returned to steam in December of 2007 and ran public excursions from 2008 to 2010. In 2011 and 2012, it sat in storage and underwent repairs. It later ran in 2013 and was painted into its modern blue paint scheme in 2015.
On these days, 425 was wearing a Reading 6 Chime which came from Reading 2102, a Baltimore & Ohio "Tumor Top" 3 Chime, and a Southern Ps-4 Longbell 3 Chime.
