On Saturday, August 13, 2022, Reading T-1 number 2102 and Reading & Northern Pacific number 425 pulled a Doubleheader excursion for the first time since 1988. Additionally, this marked the first time the two locomotives were under steam together in over 30 years. On this occasion, to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad's owner and CEO, Andy Muller Jr., 2102 and 425 led an all-day excursion from Reading Outer Station to Jim Thorpe and returned to Port Clinton. From there, the railroad's two "Fast Freight" SD50s pulled the remainder of the excursion between Port Clinton and Reading Outer Station.
With thousands of people trackside to witness this historic event, and likely the biggest steam event of 2022, the crews of 2102 and 425 put on an excellent show for all of the cameras. On this day, 2102 wore its standard Reading 6 Chime and Reading Hooter. Additionally, 425 was equipped with another Reading 6 Chime, allowing for a wonderful recreation of sounds reminiscent of the original Iron Horse Rambles Doubleheaders. With clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, the weather could not have been better for such an event.
