Throughout the 2022 and 2023 operating seasons, the Reading & Northern operated their iconic Reading T-1 number 2102 on a variety of Iron Horse Ramble and Fall Foliage Excursions. These trips ran between Reading, Pennsylvania and Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. Over the course of the 60-mile journey, the train runs over former Reading Company and former Central Railroad of New Jersey trackage. With no diesel assist and a long train ranging anywhere from 15 to 18 cars in length, these excursions take passengers back in time to the bygone era of steam. A large portion of the excursion traverses the same route 2102 and the other T-1s ran on during many of the Reading Company's Iron Horse Rambles.
Equipped with a Reading Hooter and a Reading 6 Chime and complemented by the locomotive's extremely loud exhaust, 2102 puts on a fantastic performance and provides passengers and railfans with the opportunity to hear how the T-1s would have sounded in excursion service over 60 years ago. So sit back, relax, and enjoy watching and listening to 2102 thunder through the mountains of Pennsylvania on some of the best steam excursions in the country.
