CNJ 113 is an 0-6-0 switcher built by ALCo in June of 1923. 113 has staggering 45,800 lbs of tractive effort, a huge amount for a switcher. Because of this, 113 is able to reach speeds of about 20 mph with 8-10 cars in tow. 113 did not fail to disappoint on the last day of November pulling the first of two days of Santa Specials. We will catch 113 at a variety of spots along the Minersville and Schuylkill Haven Branches. On this day, 113 wore two whistles: a PRR 3 Chime and a Hooter from a Mine Lokie.
I would like to extend a special thanks to Steve Gilbert and Train Chamber. Steve allowed me to mount my GoPro on the 113 and gave me permission to blow the whistle. Two experiences I will never forget. Going all over the engine and getting dirty trying to find the perfect spot made me feel like I was a part of the crew. I would like to thank Train Chamber for allowing me to use some secondary shots implemented throughout the video.
