Burns, the former world heavyweight champion, had not fought a serious opponent in almost seven years and was well past his best years when he signed to meet Beckett. Despite not having trained extensively, he boxed well against the taller Englishman at first, but soon ran out of gas.
Burns was in poor condition...saved himself from a KO in the second by clinching...rallied in the third, his best round, but could not land a hard enough blow to hurt Beckett...Down twice for counts before his corner threw in the sponge
