On July 2, 1940, former World Heavyweight Champion Max Baer faced the hard-hitting Tony "Two-Ton" Galento at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA.
The fight featured two of boxing's biggest personalities and hardest punchers. Galento, famous for his rugged brawling style and iron chin, came forward aggressively, while Baer relied on his superior boxing skills, speed, and devastating right hand.
As the bout progressed, Baer steadily took control, landing clean combinations and wearing Galento down. After seven punishing rounds, Galento was unable to answer the bell for the eighth round, giving Baer a victory by retirement (RTD).
The victory revived Baer's career and set up one of his final major heavyweight bouts before retirement.
