Following the sexual abuse of six young children by their 62 year old teacher in Ruichang City, Jiangxi Province, the deputy mayor of the city criticized the victims' parents who are seeking compensation for psychological harm and lost wages.
She said to the parents: "If it was my child [who was raped], I would take her for treatment somewhere discreet that no one knows, and not ask for a penny from the government."
The teacher responsible for the sexual abuse and rape has been arrested and the principal of the school suspended. Given the childrens' increased chances of developing cancer caused by the genital herpes which resulted from sexual abuse and the long lasting psychological damages, the parents are unsatisfied with the proposed 50,000 RMB solatium.
