The Sextet was completed in 2012 and was dedicated to the composer's fiancée. This is the sixth of six movements, each of which relates to the topography of Mt. Lowe in the Angeles National Forest: The White City, Castle Canyon, Mt. Lowe Observatory, The Cape of Good Hope, Granite Gate, and Alpine Tavern. The tram line pictured in the videos began to wind down its operation after The White City (Echo Mountain) was destroyed by fire on February 5, 1900, and ceased operation entirely in the 1920s. This movement of the Sextet relates to following the route of the Mount Lowe Railway, now a long and lonely trail, as it rises toward the sparse remains of a ruined hotel (the "Alpine Tavern") at its end.
