The Earth is a system of change. On June 22, 2019 volcano Raikoke erupted on the Kuril Islands in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. Astronauts on the International Space Station captured views of the immense plume of smoke and ash, injected into the stratosphere, where it was then blown eastward. Search the NASA Earth Observatory website for more on Raikoke.
