My current PB for the Novice course in Raiden DX.
Stages Listing:
00:00 - Stage 1
03:27 - Stage 2
07:43 - Stage 3
12:38 - Stage 4
17:02 - Stage 5
20:14 - Final Boss
Raiden DX serves as sort of a companion to Raiden II, some might even call it an upgrade or re balance. Basically it's Raiden II v2.0.
The Novice course is one of three different "missions" you can play in Raiden DX, the others being Training and Expert. Despite the name, it is not really "easy mode" in the traditional sense where there is no challenge. In this mode you play the first 5 levels of Raiden II, albeit slightly remixed versions of them. The bosses have been toned down a bit and also it's much easier to recover in this version as you get a guaranteed P power up if you die at full power
Scoring has been expanded significantly from Raiden II and in this version you get bonuses at the end based on enemy destruction rate, destroying special enemy radars, and another strange bonus which I'm not really sure how it works.
Another scoring aspect that has been introduced is pickup up medals at certain times to get bigger score bonuses. Basically the medals decay over time until turning grey and then for an instant they will flash, which is when you want to grab them (for 3K points each). If you get 3 medals at max value, the next one will be a Miclus which gives you 10K or 50K if you pick it up at the right time (when it briefly stops moving).
Some other differences from Raiden II:
-Player 1 (red) has faster vertical speed while player 2 (blue) has faster horizontal speed.
-Bomb type that you get is determined by the color of the lightning bolt on the course selection screen when you start the game.
Basically you want to play as Player 2 with the cluster bombs (yellow).
