This is still the 3.2in x 3.2in secondary winding and poo cylinder now with a 7 turn primary and 11nF MMC. I like this tuning a little better overall even though the arcs are not as impressive below 130VDC or so.
I found my first low impedance LC easy to finely tune by adjusting the primary up or down in tiny increments. This one will allow me to push higher voltages with less concern. I feel like my first tuning was about on par with what could have got me 5 foot arcs at double or more voltage but I really don't want to risk the bridge to try it just yet. My MMC is hardcore lacking for this job but it seems to hold up at the lower on times and 150VDC. I'm using 3 CDE 33nF caps in series, each rated at like 3.7A RMS. Was able to hit a 3 ft marker at 130VDC so I'm hoping I can get at least one more foot at about 200-250VDC. I get about half the arc length now compared to the last low impedance L1 at maybe 75VDC, but as I get closer to 130VDC it about equals out.
With the PLL I'm able to force it to see what lower pole operation at around 350khz looks like compared to upper pole at around 450khz. It seems to run much better at 450khz upper pole. This is about 50khz higher than what I ran before on the 3 turn LC. With 7 primary turns I'm able to max out the input without the variac struggling as hard, the ramp waveform seems much more solid and clean all the way through the max on times, and I feel better about feeding it a doubled voltage.
