Layla Night might be new on the professional wrestling scene, but hopes to stand out as one of the first female Muslim performers in the industry. Layla Night, how's name translates to, "Night Night" in all Semitic languages (Arabic, Aramaic and Hebrew), is avoiding the stereotypes of turning into genie or belly dancer character. With the help of her psychology background, just like the original Gorgeous George in the 1940s, Night plans on using those mental games as part of her arsenal.
Night, who trains at Cool School Wrestling in Orange County, CA, as well as having a booth with DreamSlam Wrestling at GameCraft Brewing in Anaheim, CA, worked with the charity Bears of Hope, an organization where 100 percent of the proceeds goes to helping the displaced children in Gaza. The connection highlights how the wrestling community continues to support meaningful causes outside the ring.
In speaking with Night towards the end of Ramadan, she stands to be a positive role model for other Muslim girls and women that would like to be apart of an industry that often has made Muslims the villains, from the Iran Sheik, to Skandar Akbar (which translates to Alexander the Great) and Mohammad Hassan, the stereotype is slowly melting away thanks to the likes of Sami Zain.
For Night, the art of professional wrestling, along with being one of the first openly Muslim-American women to enter the industry is something of great significance to the world, especially with Islam being the second largest religion in the world.
