KULT News audited the oldest beach resort on the West Coast: Capitola, CA.
Our visit to Capitola was the best of times and it was the worst of times. (We met some super cool locals and a handful of absolute lunatics.)
As is often the case, we had the cops called on us multiple times. The question is, would the responding officers recognize and respect our rights or would they try to violate them?

Laws may vary but, generally speaking, in the United States, if you are in public you are legally able to photograph whatever you can see. Simply put, your eyes can’t be trespassed. Obviously there are some restrictions on this (i.e., bathrooms, dressing rooms, most courtrooms, locker rooms, etc.) but very few when you are in public. If you can see it, you can shoot it (this rule only applies to cameras.) This is not legal advice.
