Sony made a lot of PSP colors, but the blue slims are the ones collectors still hunt for, and this is one of them. Back in the summer of 2008 Sony put out a limited Metallic Blue PSP as a value pack, bundled with a pouch, a hand strap, a memory stick and a cable to hook it up to your TV. A clean boxed one like this is proper nostalgia.
The slim model in this unboxing is where the PSP really hit its stride. The original launched in 2004 as Sony's first handheld and their swing at bringing near PS2 quality gaming to your pocket, going straight up against the Nintendo DS. This slim revision arrived in 2007 about a third lighter and noticeably thinner, added the ability to output to a television, doubled the memory so games and the web browser loaded faster, and charged over USB.
If you owned one you remember the UMD. That was Sony's tiny optical disc, a little disc inside a plastic shell that every PSP game shipped on. Sony even tried selling movies on UMD, which did not last long. Across its whole life the PSP line sold somewhere around 80 million units, so while it never quite caught the DS, it was a genuine hit with a killer library, from God of War and Grand Theft Auto to Monster Hunter and Crisis Core.
Here is a big reason people still love these. The PSP had a huge homebrew and custom firmware scene, so a hacked one could run emulators and all kinds of extra software, which is a massive part of why collectors and tinkerers still chase them today. Colored special edition slims like this blue one are some of the most wanted of the lot.
