What do you see?

In this view, you can appreciate the interaction of the foot with the shoe.

The inward movement of the foot, commonly referred to as foot pronation, is often used in more of a negative context.

It is seen as a movement that needs to be avoided.

However, what you will see from watching healthy runners, including world-class runners, is that this is a natural movement when you run.

It occurs as you shift weight onto the foot as a way to help the body, particularly at the foot, better absorb the forces transferred into it during running.

Being able to do so will also give potential to use that energy stored through the foot/fascia to aid in propulsion.

So, when you see some pronation occurring, don't freak out.

It does not mean that something is necessarily wrong…

Now, I already know that people in the comments will say, “Pronation is not bad, but overpronation is.”

Well of course, overdoing anything is not good.

Like exercising is good, but “over exercising” is bad.

However, what is considered “over exercising” can be different from a person with a sedentary lifestyle compared to one with a more active lifestyle.

Just like how how much exercise one person can handle can be different person to person, the same can be said with certain movements, like pronation.

Also, there is some research that suggests that pronation might even be a risk factor for injuries in runners.

This is for educational purposes and should not replace medical advice. If you are dealing with persistent running related injuries, I recommend seeing a healthcare professional.
