That's not overstriding though.
Some coaches will tell you to fix your stride the moment your foot lands in front of your body.
That is wrong.
Landing relatively close to your body is efficient, but landing directly under yourself isn't even possible unless you're actively accelerating.
Here is one thing to help you figure out if you may be overstriding.
Shin/Shank angle at landing.
Draw a line down it at contact. For Kerr, his is nearly vertical, which means his foot lands close to his body and he isn't slamming the brakes on every step.
The video to the right is...literally, I was showcasing an example of how the foot moves when you are actively trying to slow down/stop form a running start.
The shin angles way out in front, and the foot reaches ahead like a brake pedal.
So before anyone tells you to shorten your stride because your foot lands in front of you, look at the shin first.
