There was an elephant in the room! 🐘 Today we are looking at the fun, true story of Princess Alice; Utah’s escape-artist elephant! Princess Alice was purchased in 1916 and was a prominent feature at the zoo, which at the time was located in the middle of Liberty Park. Later that same year, Princess Alice made a break, escaping her enclosure and leading authorities on a chase through the city. Fortunately for everyone involved, she was apprehended and led safely back to the zoo.
The Utah Cultural Site Stewardship Program recently gave a history-focused tour of Liberty Park, giving KUER and PBS donors a fun opportunity to learn more about this 100-acre piece of Salt Lake City history
