President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received the Turkish National Men’s Basketball Team, who won the silver medal at the 2025 European Basketball Championship (EuroBasket 2025).
In a post on his social media account, Erdoğan stated that they met with the National Team at the Presidential Complex.
“Once again, I congratulate our athletes who put on an extraordinary fight at the 2025 European Basketball Championship and, after 24 years, brought our nation the excitement of a basketball final,” Erdoğan said, noting that this year they witnessed a very different tournament and a very different national team.
President Erdoğan added:
“I thank our administrators, technical staff, and players for their success in representing our country in Europe. Of course, we are a little saddened about falling just short of the trophy. But the truth is that we have gained tremendous momentum in basketball, and we must continue to strengthen it. I believe that the European championship, which narrowly slipped away this year, will be ours in the coming years. I also believe we will qualify for the 2027 Basketball World Cup in Qatar and become one of the strongest teams of the tournament.”
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, AK Party İzmir Deputy and former Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, and President of the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) Hidayet Türkoğlu.
