Friends. No matter who or where you are, I know you are feeling the stress of the world right now. Iām feeling it too.
But I am hopeful because I see you showing up for each other. I see you being the people this moment needs, ones who know that every member of our human herd matters, who know that our humanity has always depended on insisting that every human, neighbor and stranger is afforded safety and dignity.
As I tend the herd before a big storm and cold weather rolls in, I canāt help but see it as a metaphor.
On stormy days, Mainers have always pulled each otherās trucks out of ditches, checked in with soups in hand. Weāve always crossed the road and stood together, hands in pockets boots shuffling in the snow to talk (and sometimes we donāt say much at all knowing just being together, unrushed as the world rolls by can be enough.)
No one wants this chaos or division, this fear. (The handful that do will never be the ones who make a community whole.)
This is a video about checking on each goat as cold and storms roll in. About tips for helping the goats survive brutal conditions. Itās about providing whatās needed again and again even when staying inside would be easier. As you watch it, I hope you see it as a metaphor.
I hope we can all look beyond the lines people have drawn to divide us to serve our community in anyway we know how.
