By July, the grass in the goat pasture is knee high, and the herd has carved neat paths through it by walking single file on the same thin lines of dirt. Sometimes, to make it pleasant for visitors and as a meditation, I mow over the goats’ favorite paths, widening the maze through the field.
Starting any new path in life can feel intimidating. The tall grass of the unknown is scary. But the more times we repeat the habits that matter to us, the more simple it becomes to find our way until new ways of reacting to and moving in the world become automatic and easy.
