Johann Kuhnau (1660–1722) was one of the leading German composers of the late Baroque and served as Thomaskantor in Leipzig before Johann Sebastian Bach. Although largely overshadowed by his famous successor, Kuhnau wrote music of remarkable craftsmanship, combining clear counterpoint with an elegant, approachable musical language. (⁠IMSLP)

This Prelude & Fugue in B♭ Major is a delightful and accessible work, making it an excellent introduction to Kuhnau’s organ music. It is concise, melodious, and rewarding for both performers and listeners alike.

This performance uses the Martinikerk organ of Groningen in Hauptwerk.
