You've seen Stein wreck larger games by going green, now see how he fares in 1v1!
Feel like my rust when i started making videos is finally wearing off, and the more advanced stuff is coming back to me. Very happy with how i played throughout this one!
Stein did well too, making some unusual plays that i didn't see but like in retrospect. He mainly got screwed by the early plant market, with 15 coming in to block 18 then 16 coming in to block 21 after i paid around $25 for the 18. In particular i like him buying 04 instead of 12 after i won the 10.
That said, i do think Stein made a couple mistakes here:
1. Not buying trash on turn 1. This game shows exactly why i always buy trash on turn 1 even if i'm not going to build with 06: to keep my opponent honest. Since Stein couldn't power a city anyway, i was able to take a very strong 2-city build in the opening. If Stein had trash, on the other hand, my building 2 would allow him to build & make money while staying below me in the turn order; i would be much better served only building 1 in that scenario, giving Stein a much better build on turn 2.
2. Giving up 21 too quickly. It only went for a little over $25, when i could pay over $30 for it and still reach 7 cities that turn. Heck, i would've gone up to $40+ for it and been willing to settle for 6 cities! 21's efficiency & flexibility make it a monster on expensive maps like this one, and 25 going under the deck earlier made it even more important.
Also feel like i'm getting a better handle on the 20, at least in 2P. A couple weeks ago i would've felt the need to bid it up a little, but now i know to pass it and attack coal instead. Still struggle to evaluate my opponent's money, though, as i worried a lot more than i needed to about capacity.
