A star-studded 4er on one of the toughest Germany configs!
03 & 04 went for more money than usual, which tends to be the case with top players on Germany. Building is less forgiving than on the other BSW maps, so there's a bigger reward for going earlier there.
Thought i was doing well after i got 13 so cheap followed by a bad drop, but got a bit screwed when 12 came in to block 22 for me. 12 was surprisingly profitable for a long time, though, so that was still OK for me. Decided to trigger Step 2 ASAP since that would clear two plants from the market, and got a nice reward for that.
Meanwhile Stein & Bode had to buy less than ideal plants early on, and daroj's heavy investment in 22 was more than justified. daroj arguably overpaid for 26, though, and my key mistake came after i won 25 pretty cheap. My problem was that i was stuck in a corner of the map and risked my builds getting blocked for Step 3, but i decided to build to 10 cities ASAP anyway. That cost me dearly in the endgame and doomed me to last place.
Bode gave me some great advice after the game that i hadn't heard before: if you were the one who started Step 2, do whatever you can to go low in the turn order before Step 3! This game is a great demonstration of that, as i feel i played very well otherwise. The move for me in retrospect was to build to 8 cities after i got the 25, then wait for others to build above me before i go any further. Usually at least one player will, so you can still make your money with a little patience.
This has to be the closest finish we've had yet in a 4+ player game on this channel, BTW - be sure to check it out as well as the post-game chat!
