The return of the best Power Grid player in the world! Not the best outing for him here though...
This game presented an interesting auction of 11 vs. 17. 11 is obviously worth more since it offers better turn order, but how much more is an open question. Ended up giving it to Bode at $21 and taking 17 for myself. You could actually argue that Bode should've bought 09 instead of 08 earlier, since 09 pairs much better with the nuclear plants...then again, giving me all the coal probably wasn't great either. In retrospect i think Bode should've bid more for 05; i value that plant a little more in 2P France vs. other maps since you get 10 at cost and that goes great with 11.
Couple other things that helped me were getting all of Paris early on, as Bode opted to jump me for the expensive south instead. Something i've learned from playing 2P vs. psteinx is that having a really cheap first 5-6 cities can outweigh winning the Step 1 city split; cheaper builds allow you to go harder for big plants and quickly build plants out of the market if needed.
What swung this game for me more than anything else, though, was 20 dropping out of nowhere after Bode paid nearly $45 for the 21. With his expensive builds, he was hopelessly behind from that point onward. Getting 26 at cost late was icing on the cake.
The finish was needlessly conservative on my part, but i'll never apologize for taking the guaranteed win over the 99.99% likely win!
