Join me as I spend a morning photographing shorebirds with the Nikon Z8 and Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC along the rocky coastline of Newfoundland. I got out right at sunrise on a clear morning, the sun wasn’t going to shine on the rocks immediately due to a nearby tree line blocking the sun. I ended up photographing a Common Loon, Common Eiders, Common Tern, Ruddy Turnstones, Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper, and a Greater Yellowlegs all in about an hour. It was a challenge to get a water level and low angle perspective. I did struggle at first to get close to some birds but after some stalking and patience I had a few closer encounters. I particularly enjoyed the back-lit shorebirds that I captured towards the end of the shoot. I chose the Nikon Z8 for its lightweight body and the Nikon 400mm f/2.8 VR TC for its added reach with the built in teleconverter, which proved to be a wise choice.
