A series of mid-size premium crossover sport utility vehicles known as the Porsche Cayenne has been produced by the German carmaker Porsche since 2002, with North American sales starting in 2003. It is Porsche's first V8-powered car produced since the Porsche 928 was phased out in 1995. Additionally, it is the first Porsche with four doors and the company's first off-road type vehicle since the Super and Junior tractors of the 1950s.
Volkswagen Group acquired an 80% stake in BAZ in May 1991, following the breakdown of the Iron Curtain. Production of the Skoda Auto brand continued and was expanded to encompass further Volkswagen Group cars, starting with the Volkswagen Passat. The company was renamed Volkswagen Slovakia in 1998 when Volkswagen Group purchased all of the remaining firm shares. In 2000, Volkswagen subsequently acquired the remaining stock in Skoda Auto.
Since VW created its big SUV platform, the factory has evolved into a specialized manufacturer of all large SUVs sold under the VW Group's various brand names, including the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, and Audi Q8 as well as the co-designed Porsche Cayenne, which is built on the same platform. Additionally, it is the only plant in the VW Group that makes the Golf Syncro four-wheel drive. The VW up! as well as the SEAT Mii and koda Citigo, which were badge-engineered for European markets, have been built at the facility since December 2011
