Over the years it was restored several times, the last substantial one dates back to 1913, when the concrete barges were positioned. It was initially built as a temporary work but resisted both world wars. This type of bridge follows the flow of the river, when the water level of the Ticino rises the boats float. Today the structure inevitably suffers all its years and poor maintenance (in 2013 the maintenance costs alone were around 70 thousand euros). Due to the increasingly dry river, the boats can no longer float, stuck in piles of gravel and rest on the ground suffering inevitable structural damage. The Bridge is a heritage to be preserved because for the many tourists coming from the surrounding area, it represents an important point of passage for visiting the Ticino Park.
