A Police special task force has been formed in Australia as a direct response to growing direct actions in the last few weeks. Scientist Rebellion and Fireproof Australia were able to block a major road in Sydney today despite draconian, authoritarian new laws enacted by the far right Government of NSW and Australia, who are completely beholden to the fossil fuel industry despite Australia being on the front lines of climate breakdown. Among the arrests was Dr. Martin Wolterding, a former marine ecologist professor and committed activist.
Hundreds of scientists around the world are engaging in civil disobedience actions to highlight the severity of the crisis we are in and the short amount of time remaining to secure a liveable future for all. High fines and long prison sentences from authoritarian governments will not deter scientists and members of the community, who are not willing to stand by and watch the future of millions of people be destroyed by politicians who have completely abandoned their duties to protect their own citizens!
