On November 28, 2024, an officer with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office was notified of a westbound pickup truck traveling with a reported stolen Florida license plate. A deputy with a K9 unit relayed the information to the responding officer. The officer located the vehicle, confirmed the tag, and followed it as it drove into Milton. The vehicle pulled into a public place on Caroline Street, at which point the officer initiated a traffic stop. The male driver was detained immediately. Other deputies had the female passenger exit the vehicle. While the stolen tag investigation was underway, the K9 alerted to the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered a small clear plastic bag with a green leafy material and two short straws. A female police officer arrived on the scene to conduct a search of the female passenger's person, but the passenger became defiant and began verbally and physically resisting the search of a certain area.
