Seeing our polar bear ‘Siku’ at the training wall is an incredible experience that not only showcases just how tall this bear is but also shows the beautiful bond he has with his dedicated care team. 💙
This wall in the Taylor Family Foundation Polar Bear Sanctuary is where Siku’s care team can easily facilitate training with him. All of the animals in our care have the option to voluntarily participate in training, which helps them to get comfortable with their care teams for different health procedures, such as weight checks and injections. Using special snacks makes animals more interested in participating! In this case, Siku received seal oil. 😋 Our Animal Care Technician Margie and Animal Care Specialist Nicole initiated touch training with Siku, getting him to touch his nose to a target ball. With each correct touch, Siku got a snack to reinforce the desired behaviour!
