I had been seeing decks for Mega Meganium ex and Mega Feraligatr ex (though the latter hasn’t been quite doing as well as it did towards the beginning, probably because of the setup needed to fulfill its added damage), but Mega Emboar ex has been by far the rarest sight among the Mega Evolved Lumiose City first-partner Pokémon. Not that they don’t exist at all, but this one is NOT an easy nor consistent deck at all. But it is so fun to use, and I like having another Fire deck at my disposal. This will be one last regulation G-H-I-J deck before rotation to debut, and after that will be a video featuring a couple of heavily revised decks before rotation occurs and I start from scratch.

Mega Emboar ex has a single straightforward attack with no second attack or Ability, which it has in common with the other Mega Evolved first partner Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. it has the highest HP of all Pokémon released to date at 380 HP, but it damages itself whenever it attacks. This would turn it into a liability over the course of a battle—but we have another Emboar in the format, this one from White Flare, who has the Ability “Inferno Fandango” that allows unlimited attachment of Basic Fire Energy from your hand. Very nice with Firebreather, who gets up to 7 Basic Fire Energy from the deck. Why is this Energy attachment crucial? Because of the Supporter ard Wally’s Determination, who fully heals a Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, but send all attached Energy back to your hand—Energy you can just attach back with “Inferno Fandango.” I do not use Oricorio ex because it can only attach to the Bench.
Crimson Blaze, Mega Emboar ex’s attack, hits for 320 damage, enough to one-hit KO Gardevoir ex and Dragapult ex. It struggles against guys with slightly higher HP like Charizard ex and Mega Absol ex with a Bravery Charm, both with 330 HP, and Mega Lucario ex, with 340 HP, which is why Victini is in this deck: to provide Mega Emboar with the little push needed to get the KO on them. Having two Stage 2 Pokémon is rough to set up; getting Wally’s Compassion when you need it even more so. This is why Pidgeot ex is in this deck: to facilitate setting up. It’s a lot easier when you can pick out whichever card is missing. This is also why the entire deck has a lot of singles and doubles of various cards: to meet many situations as needed while searching them out with Pidgeot ex’s “Quick Search.” It’s also why Redeemable Ticket is in there, as oftentimes, a card needed will be in the Prizes, so Redeemable Ticket allows me to pull them out of the Prizes and use “Quick Search” to get them into my hand. Team Rocket's Petrel is used instead of Arven because this deck does not use any Pokémon Tools. For the same reason, Jamming Tower is in this deck because shutting down Pokémon Tools does not affect this deck's operations at all.
The first match showed the combo of Crimson Blaze, “Inferno Fandango,” and Wally’s Compassion to keep damage off of Mega Emboar ex and ensure it could continue to ravage anything that doesn’t knock it out in one hit (meaninfg Mega Dragonite ex gives it a lot of trouble), while the second match showed a more standard deck (N’s Zoroark ex) but, even with an early Pidgeot ex, I could not get that combo off because they knocked out a Benched Tepig early on with Night Joker copying Flamebody Cannon and two of my Tepig were Benched, necessitating a turn of “Quick Search” to get out Redeemable Ticket.
