Apparently, for the following season, the one beginning in June 2026, whatever it’s called, it’s been confirmed that there will be at least one new backdrop. Not sure if we keep the Battle Arena (though I’m sure the Gym Court is not going anywhere), but I would like to see a variety of landscapes like we did in Pokémon Battle Revolution. The game has also confirmed there wil be more Pokémon—I’m looking to see if Pawmot will turn up for reasons I mentioned prior, but thinking about it, Dondozo was prominently featured in the opening trailer, only for it to be absent now.

I am not missing Dondozo much though. However annoying to fight Snorlax was in the eary generations and in Dynamax/Gigantamax formats, Dondozo feels a similar way (especially when accompanied by Tatsugiri).

00:00 - Battle #1
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: ハチミン (Hachimin)
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (Ruby & Sapphire)
My Pokémon: Forrest (Forretress), Victoria (Victreebel), Rex (Tyrantrum)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Bellibolt, Basculegion (Male), Lopunny

I’ve gone up against the most commonly used Pokémon many times with this team and have conquered nearly all of them at least once…Bellibolt is not among them, though, and gave m a lot fo trouble here. Between a lack of weaknesses, a high resilience, Electromorphosis to boost Electric attacks, and a lot of healing in Slack Off and Parabolic Charge, it can outlast even Pokémon with Ground-type moves. I think I needed Dragon Dance for this one.

I picked the wrong Pokémon to start this battle though, which put me on the wrong foot. Team Preview is perhaps more important than any turns in the battle itself.

04:48 - Battle #2
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: Nikkie
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (Diamond & Pearl)
My Pokémon: Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Victoria (Victreebel), Samantha (Toucannon)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Froslass, my son (Machamp), Charizard

I’ve been seeing things called “my son” for decades, and I never learned the detailed behind it, how it got started, and how it’s propagated through culture. It comes across to me as a meme, to refer to something precious to someone in a joking way. Me, I named this video not just for this green shiny Machamp, but after the sitcom from the 1960s, My Three Sons.

07:10 - Battle #3
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: レジギガス (Regigigas)
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (Diamond & Pearl)
My Pokémon: Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Victoria (Victreebel), Samantha (Toucannon)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Espathra, Dragonite, Archaludon

Espathra is a Pokémon that has been of my interest for some time. On paper, it sounds like a beast (though pretty different from how a real ostrich would fight): Speed Boost to keep gaining Speed, Lumina Crash to ensure the target is increasingly vulnerable to special attacks. It is a terrible matchup against Dark-types though, especially Kingambit, who turned up in the same generation as it.

I thought the opponent was going to switch out after scouting with Protect, which is why I went for Surf. I thought they would switch to something resistant to Ghost, but looking back at my footage, they had no such Pokémon on their team. (How do you view the opponent’s team members when making a move selection? Can it be done at all?)

Victreebel vs. Archaludon was a slow-moving part of the battle. I did notice, though, that Defense was not increasing as I used Giga Drain, meaning it must have had Sturdy (as Stalwart would have no purpose in a single battle). They did a weirdly-timed switch out though, allowing me the turn to use Agility and regain the upper hand.

14:42 - Battle #4
Type: Single Battle
Opponent: ユキ (Yuki)
Battle Court: Battle Arena
Music: Trainer (HeartGold & SoulSilver)
My Pokémon: Shirley (Meowstic) (Female), Dolores (Basculegion) (Female), Samantha (Toucannon)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Diggersby, Toxapex, Dragonite

A short battle, but an important one for me in this season because this was the one that got me to Master Ball. But why Ice Punch against Mega Meowstic? Mega Meowstic is still fragile on the physical side.

18:04 - No, I did not reach Champion Tier, not this season at least.
