I can still remember vividly the battle between Ash and Brandon in the anime and the way he announces "Regirock! I need your assistance!" It gives me very similar vibes to the enthusiasm that Giovanni finally gives in his battle versus Red in Pokemon Generations. Chills every time.
I love all of the derivations of this track - the anime version, Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire's rendition - but I decided to come back to the original to pay my respects, mainly due to the fact that the only Regi that I managed to ever catch was Registeel. Save states and Timer balls for the win!
I tried to keep this fairly minimal but really enhance the atmospheric nature of the track where I could. I ended up skipping on a few off the off-beat discordant notes in favour of providing more variation in the bassline but I think it paid off here. I'm happy with the vibe that I was able to create here and while it actually leans more towards the 3DS remakes due to the sample usage, I still think it has it's own strength here.

I absolutely adore the music by The Black Mages. The new and interesting spins that they put on some of Uematsu-sans works over the years are truly spectacular. Some personal favourites being from the FFIII, FFVII and FFVIII games that they do. And, of course, Seymours final battle theme from Final Fantasy X!
They never actually gave their spin on the battle theme from FFX so I thought that I would give it a try in a (very) vaguely inspired Black Mages style but mostly my own style and original ideas in the second half of the track.
In terms of the overall sound, I love what I was able to come up with here. The instruments seem to blend together well and I like some of the off-beat notes coming together to really amp things up and move into a battling flow with that faster slap bass. It actually sounds great when that bass is put into double-time essentially and doesnt completely overwhelm the other instruments which was an added boon.
I know that my transitions between sections were definitely lacking though. Its a little jarring in a couple of sections, making me think that it sounds like two or three songs have been slapped together - more like a medley perhaps but it definitely wasnt intended to be that way. I just wanted to bring together the mood of the original and then move into something more flowing in the second half.
