I have ordered numerous times from hand picked nursery and I'm always highly impressed at the quality, condition, number of bare root crowns I've purchased from them. Because of that experience, anytime I am adding something new to the homestead orchard or garden, I always check to see if hand picked nursery sells it first. They are a veteran owned small business with a brick and mortar store and they also sell on Amazon.
I've planted strawberries sourced locally twice in the past (2018 and 2020) and they end up being poor quality, dried out, short roots, diseased and struggle to revive. The ones that make it then get wiped out by the rabbits, raccoons, and deer planted in the ground surrounded by field fence so this year I'm planting them in raised beds inside the main garden area.
This video starts about 3 days after they arrived in the mail. I had to work so stuck them in the refrigerator until I had time. There are lots of tips and tricks as I show you how I revive bare root strawberry crowns, let them start to leaf out, transfer to pots, build up enough stored energy so they can survive on their own outside, transplant them outside in raised beds (this video actually happened about 4 weeks ago and they are thriving today but its also been raining for about 4 weeks every day lol - the local news says this is the wettest spring we have had in a decade and i believe it - 2016 was the wettest spring I can recall and i only remember that because it took me 2 months to build the chicken coop and run that I thought I could get done in 3-4 days but it literally rained every single day)
I tried to make this planting bare root strawberries as complete as possible so this will be easier for you. You do need to keep strawberry roots moist which is the reason for mulching them once outside. I haven't had to water them due to all the rain though and that might be something you will need to do depending on how dry/wet it is when you plant yours.
