why is this weird? Well, because I have no idea if this is the problem or not. There is a range of frequencies I can't hear post chemo and radiation due to hearing damage. Very high frequencies, like smoke detector, c02 alarms, a microwave ding from the timer, oven timers, and UPS battery warnings are some things that come to mind. I only know about this noise because someone asked me what it was, except I couldn't hear it. It's even possible it's not making the noise in the video because sometimes they don't make noise when they are hot or sometimes when they're cold (noise can change due to temperature, speed, or even load). I have no idea since I can't hear it to begin with but based on how they described the noise, a high pitched "whirring" sound, that usually means a pulley noise of some sort. It could be what I replaced, it could be any of the other alternator, smog pump, AC pump, or water pump bearings too but I simply replaced the most likely cause and that is belt, belt tensioner, and idler pulley. Just as an fyi, after they told me about the noise, a few days later I came in from work and stopped by the mailbox, I thought i heard a bunch of crickets chirping .... and I was like, I bet thats the noise ... but it could just be the constant chirping in my ears from tinnitus (also from chemo and radiation). It sucks not being able to hear lol. Either way, it's a simple job anyone should be able to do in like 15 minutes that only requires a 3/8 ratchet, 5/8 socket, 9/16 socket.
I didn't show it in the video but while I had the belt off I also checked the alternator pulley, smog pump, ac compressor, and water pumps for any gritty feeling, looseness, or wear ... everything seemed fine.
