Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each outside with me on this beautiful morning. Today we are going to be planting up another raised bed.
Slowly but surely I am getting each of these beautiful raised beds filled up and planted. Looking forward to watching these beds fill out and being able to harvest from them. Below you will find the names and growing needs of each of the herbs in the video.
Salem Rosemary - is an upright, 2-foot evergreen shrub known for its blue-violet flowers, intense flavor, and higher tolerance for moisture than other varieties. Grow it in full sun (6-8 hours) in well-drained, sandy loam soil. It thrives in zones 7-10, preferring to stay relatively dry once established.
Stevia - is a tender perennial herb grown for its sweet leaves, thriving in full sun, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and zones 8–11. Plant it in spring after frost, space 18 inches apart, and provide consistent moisture without waterlogging. Stevia is well-suited for pots, making it easy to bring indoors during winter in colder climates Zones 7 and below. Use rich potting soil and ensure excellent drainage.
Lemon Verbena - is a tender, fragrant perennial shrub that thrives in full sun 6+ hours and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. It thrives in containers, needs regular watering when the top 2 inches of soil are dry, and requires consistent feeding with liquid fertilizer. As a tender plant, it needs protection from frost and should be overwintered indoors in climates colder than Zone 8b and up.
Hill Hardy Rosemary - is best grown in full sun (6-8+ hours) and, most importantly, well-drained, sandy, or neutral-to-slightly acidic soil. It thrives in USDA Zones 6-10, requiring consistent watering only until established, after which it is drought-tolerant. Prune in early spring, and protect from winter wetness.
Pineapple sage - in full sun to partial shade during spring, once the danger of frost has passed. It thrives in well-drained, rich soil, with a spacing of 24–36 inches apart, as it can grow 3–5 feet tall. Keep the soil consistently moist, watering regularly during summer, especially if in containers.
Berggarten sage - is a hardy, aromatic culinary herb known for its large, silvery-green leaves and non-flowering habit. It thrives in full sun 6-8+ hours and well-drained soil, growing roughly 12–24 inches tall and wide. It is drought-tolerant once established and performs well in pots or gardens, thriving in zones 5-9.
