Unit checked out to be okay (using an indoor 300-ohm twin-lead dipole antenna) except for a missing axial bulb that was rated at 8V and 55mA. Two radial bulbs rated at 8V and 40mA were used as replacements since the axial type bulbs were much more expensive and the market value of the tuner is low. The new bulbs are slightly dimmer, but not enough to get upset about.
The tuner itself is a no-frills type of tuner; the more sophisticated Pioneer tuners for 1978-79 were the TX-8500 II and the TX-9500 II, which have overall better specifications.
