So I was messing around in Glutton's Kitchen 6 when I realized a strange phenomena with Pikmin clipping into the plates in certain corners. I figured I'd try doing the same with a captain, and lo and behold, it led to a way to gain height and maneuver over the in-bounds barrier!
There's not too much to show off while out of bounds. There is a tall invisible wall surrounding the map, even yellows can't be tossed over. However, there are a surprising number of waypoints that are placed out of bounds (which I show off by having Pikmin carry Olimar). My guess is that this is intended for the breadbug AI, since they often travel in these OoB areas.
It would be ideal if this method of getting out of bounds has more general applications. However, this glitch seems to rely on wonky course geometry, especially since plates may have low ceilings that don't appear in too many places. Also, we don't get too much height from having Louie shove us into the corner, so we can't get over most barriers in the game. Still, perhaps there is some way to perform a similar glitch in Valley of Repose on day 1, which would be the dream (keep in mind that getting to Emergence Cave on day 1 means that a 6-day completion is possible, since we can use Rest Skip: youtube.com/watch?v=ChcaITxJxJs ).
