Grassdigger | Pikmin 2: "A-Button Only" Challenge (Day 35 part 3) @grassdigger8695 | Uploaded February 2018 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
In this challenge, all I can use is the control stick and the A-button. This means no whistling, no switching captains, no disbanding, no napsack, no sprays, no C-stick, no camera, and no pausing.

FINALE: youtube.com/watch?v=d-0tndGxvkc

In this video, I do sublevels 1-13 of Dream Den. I do not fight Titan Dweevil in this video, but I do have an attempt of me fighting it on Youtube, though it's not very good, as it's filled with Pikmin deaths: youtube.com/watch?v=PCHZ05i_A9k
In the Finale, I plan on defeating Titan Dweevil without Pikmin deaths, even if I have to revisit Dream Den and go over 35 days. As of writing this, I'm still not sure if this is possible.

For the Titan Dweevil fight, I had planned on using 40 whites and 60 blues. Thus, this is the same army that I use to take out Dream Den. Since I don't have purples, this cave becomes very difficult! I resort to using captain punches at times (as seen in the thumbnail), though I try to refrain myself from doing this too often.

There are a few sublevels where I only use white Pikmin. On two occasions, I avoid fighting almost all enemies and I rely on the whites' speed to carry the treasures to safety. In general, I try to do combat with blue Pikmin, since I do not mind if they become leaves.

The Gatling Groink on sublevel 2 is a pain. I can distract it with a Pikmin right beneath it, but Pikmin cannot attack it for long without being shook off. However, it turns out that my Rocket Fists can reach the Groink's hitbox! This made killing it much easier and quicker.

The Spotty Bulbear on sublevel 3 can be lured out of bounds, but I need 2 Pikmin underneath it to spawn it. I have to be careful to avoid the dwarf bulbear chomps as well as bombs, which I didn't do a good job of doing in the video. Regardless, I got through it unscathed.

I can also lure the Fiery Bulblax in sublevel 5 to fall out of bounds, which is convenient. However, if the treasure spawns behind a bunch of fire vents, it is very difficult to take them all out, especially if they are grouped together. After some resets, I got a lucky layout where this was not necessary.

Sublevel 7 was sometimes just impossible. The level is cleverly designed to have enemies that make you lose control of your Pikmin so that the Careening Dirigibugs can finish them off with bombs. Fortunately, I got a layout where my half of the floor was free from Careening Dirigibugs in the video. Thus, I was able to lure the Puffy Blowhog's treasure near the Research Pod and collect it safely. In addition, I was able to walk past the other enemies and destroy the plug without having any of the enemies loaded.

Sublevel 8 was also nasty. I have to kill a bunch of hazards without the right Pikmin, so I need to be patient and precise. The Antenna Beetle can be risky to kill, since it is by an electric gate, so I leave it be. It is possible that two dweevils can pick up both treasures, and this would have allowed me to bypass almost every hazard. Oh well.

Sublevel 10 can be tricky because of the Gatling Groink, but I was able to distract it with a Pikmin hiding behind a corner in the map. The rest of the floor was pretty easy.

I'm very happy with sublevel 11. I had a layout that allowed my Pikmin to carry both treasures safely through a corridor, so all I had to do was punch some enemies to death. I was able to ignore all of the electricity because of this.

Sublevel 12 is pretty easy if you only use white Pikmin. Taking out the poison vents is lengthy and dangerous, so it is easiest to leave them be. Somehow, I managed to hit every wrong dead end before finding the one with the buried treasure :(

Lastly, sublevel 13... I'm not sure what the developers were thinking here. The calm before the storm, maybe? Regardless, this floor has always been easy.

Tune in next time for the epic Titan Dweevil fight. If you have ideas that may help me defeat it deathless, please let me know in the comments! I currently have a couple of strats, but I'm not sure if they will work.
