In this video, I want to find a cannon beetle, kill it, and harvest its corpse as fast as possible. I manage to do this in under sixteen minutes.
The main reason I made this video is to demonstrate 2 things:
1. The trick at 12:07 that allows me to throw Pikmin to a part of Valley of Repose that would normally be inaccessible. The key is to stand in the precise spot in the video, then throw Pikmin toward the right wall inside of the shadow. Note that his ONLY works on the Wii version.
2. After doing this trick, it's possible to kill the nearby cannon beetle and harvest its corpse. Since doing this will almost always guarantee you casualties, doing this to gain extra Pikmin is not advised outside of this speedrun.
Other than that, I commentate on some little speedrunning tips throughout the video. For example, you can lose a lot of time if you don't scroll through text like I do in the video.
Could the trick highlighted in this video be useful? Currently, I'm not sure. We definitely can't do much in Valley of Repose on day 2 without getting captains into these areas, and there's still no way to destroy the wall in water without having blue Pikmin. At best, we could get Pikmin to work on the bridge early.
Note: Another potential route would be to bum rush Snagret Hole and harvest a cannon beetle on sublevel 4. This would be the route for Gamecube, but I don't think it would beat my time on Wii.
