Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival presents to you “Meet the Filmmakers”. This episode features the film “Wheelie” and its director Isis Mihrimah Cabolet with the producer Sacha Gertsik. The interview was conducted by Karin Martinson.

3. Samuel Beau Reurekas, Reza’s actor, tried using the wheelchair in everyday situations, like on the streets and public transport. How did he find the experience? Did he face any difficulties?
Premiered at PÖFF, “Wheelie” tells the story of Reza, a carefree skateboarder whose days are spent hanging out, partying, and smoking cannabis. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is involved in a motorcycle accident that leaves him unable to walk. For the first time, Reza must make real-life decisions and confront his problems. What follows is a frustrating and challenging, yet also liberating, inspiring, and surprisingly humorous journey of self-discovery. The film invites viewers to see the world through the eyes of a person in a wheelchair while showing that a person is much more than their physical disability.
Isis Mihrimah Cabolet (born 1986) graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2011 and has performed with several theatre companies, as well as in films and television series. Since 2020, she has also been writing and directing her own projects. Her first short film, “F*ck My Life” (2022), earned her a nomination for Best Debut Short Film at the Dutch Film Festival. “Wheelie” is her debut feature, and she is currently working on a new feature while continuing her acting career.

Terve Reza elu saab aga kannapöörde kui ta satub mootorrattaõnnetusse, mille tagajärjel ei suuda ta enam kõndida. Nüüd peab noormees esimest korda elus hakkama päris otsuseid langetama ja probleemidega tegelema. Algab üks frustreeriv ja pingerikas, aga ka vabastav, inspireeriv ja üllatavalt humoorikas eneseleidmise teekond. Film avab vaatajale ratastoolis oleva inimese maailma, näidates samas, et inimene on palju enamat kui tema füüsiline puue.
Isis Mihrimah Cabolet (1986) lõpetas 2011. aastal Maastrichti Teatriakadeemia näitlejana ja on osalenud mitmes teatritrupis, aga esinenud ka filmides ja telesaadetes. Alates 2020. aastast hakkas ta kirjutama ja lavastama ka omaenda projekte. 2022. aastal valmis tema esimene lühifilm “F*ck My Life”, mis tõi talle Madalmaade filmifestivalil parima debüütfilmi nominatsiooni. “Wheelie” on tema esimene täispikk film ning praegu töötab ta juba uue täispika filmi kallal, jätkates samaaegselt ka näitlejatööd.
