This suite is dedicated to one Josie Lewis :)
Pan's Labyrinth was the film that made me fall in love with Guillermo del Toro; amazing visuals, tragic story, interesting characters, and an amazing score as a cherry on top. The main theme is a lullaby, usually hummed or played on piano. It's a somber, reflective piece with an accompanying piano pattern, angelic choir, winding strings, and an overall sense of melancholy and longing. For as fantastical and beautiful as the theme sounds, at its core it's a theme for a sad, tragic story centering around the horrors of war and our ways to try and escape from it. And Navarette's beautiful, iconic score highlights this perfectly, shifting instrumental styles to reveal the sadness and reality of it all. A beautiful and heartwrenching melody perfectly befitting of one of my favorite movies of all time.
