Since the beginning of our scene there have been 'cover' bands; & at my tenure I've seen some REAL good ones. But during the inception of RMW, I decided early on that I would only support 'original' metal music & that's how its ALWAYS been. I guess I feel it lends more integrity to the art, the fans & our show. Ironically, I also quickly realized how VERY few of these bands rarely evolve & become legit original artists. I'm proud to share that is NOT the case with Mission, TX band, Overt Enemy! In fact, OE has not only managed to accomplish this transition seamlessly, but have also done it efficiently & effectively. Since 2013 OE has been thrashin it out for Texas fans & when the clamor for orignal music began the band quickly obliged; moving away from their Slayer roots into their own authentic, aggressive thrash. They do it well, so when the band was in town at the Paper Tiger on August 26th, 2023 as openers for a heavy SA metal night (which also included Semper Acerbus & Lockjaw), I took the opportunity to chat it up with drummer, Saul Castillo & bassist, Slayerella. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the band's evolution, playing the 21st Annual 'Thunder In The Hill Country' fest, (& the recording of their performance & subsequent forthcoming LIVE record), what to expect from their UPCOMING, NEW debut LP, regional touring & a few COOL stories.
