One of the benefits of the longevity of our program is having the opportunity to see musicians develop over time; And, one indisputable conclusion is that there comes a point of transition, of proliferation where they can return to the ‘game’ & with a broader scope, not only on their careers, but more importantly themselves. This evolution out of adolescence is always a grand step forward too because it produces more focused, relevant & deeper music. This is both rewarding for the musician & stimulating for the fans. And, one long-standing San Antonio band that embodies this revelation is MEMORIES IN BROKEN GLASS. I first came to know the band back in 2013 when we interviewed in support of the band’s debut EP, ‘Recode’; And, what always intrigued me about the band was their uncommon approach to heavy music. They’re definitely unlike any other band in our scene implementing complex melodies with brutal guitars, an array of vocal attacks & precisely timed musical interludes all in between, which has always given MIBG that added touch of brilliance. Now, in 2025 the band has returned from a 4-year hiatus with a revitalized line-up, which most notably includes the return of original vocalist, Raul Longoria, & NEW music planned for the rest of the year; of which 2 NEW songs have already dropped, the bludgeoning, ‘Perfect Blue’ & translucent, ‘Liquid Bones’. SO, as this new chapter begins in the EPIC journey of MIBG – I knew it was the right time to get the band back on RMW after 12 long years. In the interview below you will see Raul & founding guitarist, Mark Martinez discuss the following: the lead up to the hiatus, the bands return, their musical progressions, the line-up, their NEW music, the recording process, social media, their approach to music videos, playing shows & TONS of silly stories with LOTS of laughs.
