Change. That word has taken on new meaning for ALL of us these past few years & its quite evident that as our world seems to turn faster change will also continue to become more prevalent. It can be a tumultuous turning point for many whether we're dealing with new jobs, lost family or friends, changing emotional demeanors OR even the ever dangerous geo-political standards of our world. However, on the other side of that coin are the vast opportunities change can also place onto our laps. Nevertheless, change is here & will continue to materialize in every corner of our lives. The individuals who can accept it, interpret it & dare I say welcome it will be the champions of their own destiny & come out in a much better position than they ever anticipated. This anecdote comes to mind when I think of the sordid story of San Antonio band, Darkness Emerged. Born from the tempest of the pandemic the individuals of DE found themselves quite a unique infrastructure within each other born out of the changing tides that so many regional metal bands cycle through. I first came to know of the band when Julian Cruz of JC Productions brought me the bands newly released 5-song EP,...the aptly titled, 'Changes'. I immediately found their brutality to be appealing with its sense of dynamics, melody, crushing build-ups & gutteral vocal angst. BUT, what struck me the most was the band's sense of 'song'. DE was not being heavy for the sake of being heavy, but were delivering BOTH a musical composition AND a lyrical message that hit home. You add the top notch production courtesy of Fernando Lemus & 'Changes' is an EP that will keep you coming back for more. I knew I wanted to support this release, so I took the opportunity to invite the band to the RMW Studio on July 8th, 2023 for what turned out to be a fun, raucous & 'metal' time! SO, in the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the bands early formation, how their music has evolved, their strategy to releasing music, recording with FL Recordings, lyrical themes, upcoming shows (& videos) & A LOT of crazy banter.
