"I compose and perform electroacoustic music with an emphasis on long tones and microtonal sonorities. Along with many Band-camp releases (mysterybear.bandcamp.com), I have two CD releases: "~60 Hz" on Irritable Hedgehog (2014) and "Involution" on XI Records (2021). In a previous life as a guitarist, I am best known for the premiere recording of Lois V Vierk’s "五 Guitars" ("Go Guitars") on Vierk's CD "Simoom" (XI Records, 1991). I live in New Hampshire. For Oto Zono, I will perform a version of Catherine Christer Hennix's classic piece The Elecric Harpsichord. This is not meant to replicate her performance, but is instead my own interpretation. Based on the existing documentation, I will use the same scale (Multani), tuned according to Alain Danielou's "Ragas of Northern Indian Music". Hennix performed the piece using a retuned electronic keyboard; I will be using Meng Qi's Wingie2 resonator (a digital electronic instrument) with additional processing. $The Secret Pope-Last Rites Performance by Sofy Yuditskaya A live play of a new piece recently created for the Secret Pope project by Sofy Yuditskaya. This last embodiment will be performed on Oct 31, 2021 for the closing of the Secret Pope installation at Harvestworks on Governor’s Island. On a backdrop of spacey stary skies and generated graphics, the Secret Pope emerges like a satellite reflecting and refracting 8bit projections of the constellations behind her. This piece speaks to the extension of ourselves into the future, and expanding into space. The piece was originally commissioned by Robert Pepper for his tarot project closing at Pleiades Gallery. $音園 Oto Zono Festival Day 1 - Elliott Sharp and Janene Higgins Elliott Sharp and Janene Higgins present Suspension of Disbelief, a structure for improvisation using video and sound. In their work together, the images provide a visual counterpoint to the music. Foreground and background are continuously shifting as both sound and visuals emerge from fixed elements and then expand with improvised extrapolations. The projections may solidify the abstract but may also elevate that which is obvious to another level of meaning, never literal, never explaining, but creating an immediate visceral response. As a composer, Sharps strategies encompass fractal geometry, chaos theory, algorithmic approaches, genetic metaphors, and new techniques for graphic notation to yield work catalyzing a synesthetic approach to music as well as functioning as retinal art. A multi-instrumentalist, Sharp may perform on guitars, reeds, instruments of his own invention, and electronics. A graphic designer by profession, Janene Higgins uses original footage, hand-painted textures, and digital processing in her projection design which she may then manipulate live, using various software operations. Sharp and Higgins have created a number of operas with the visuals providing set and setting as well as commentary. The operas include Binibon (2009), Port Bou (2014), Filiseti Mekidesi (2018), and Die Grösste Fuge (2021). In addition, their Entanglement Suite was premiered in Naples, Italy in September 2023 by the Ensemble Dissonanzen.$
