A crew replaced static wire with optical ground wire (OPGW) along an 88.9-mile transmission line in Kansas to support substation communication.

Working in 2 to 4 mile sections, crews removed existing wire and installed new OPGW to combine grounding and fiber optic communication in a single system.

OPGW enhances grid reliability by protecting against lightning while enabling high-speed data transmission across long distances.
